Warning! Climate change is nearer than you think

Is Climate Change really that near than you think?

Before the flood

Yes, Climate change is really nearer than you can even imagine. To be honest, how many times do we think about our climate on a particular day. Not even once so, while we were ignoring the fact that climate change is very near to us. It already happened. I was watching a documentary on climate change called Before the Flood starring Leonardo di Caprio I was so motivated and forced to read more about the climate and thus I am writing some of the important information based on that documentary and other  articles I read on the various websites

Climate change

Everyone knows that climate change is happening right now and not in the coming years. While you read this blog post tons of ice have melted and have dropped into the ocean. We know that it is a serious matter but when discussed we go to denial pretending that it is yet gonna happen. Amazingly, we think that because it is not affecting us at a greater level we are living our lives normally. However, that time is not far when we will be suffering from an even more hot climate than now.

Some pieces of evidence indicating climate change:

Global Temperature RiseGlobal Temperature Rise

Since years the temperature around the globe is rapidly increasing more than one feels about it. It is happening quickly but remains unnoticeable because everyone is busy in their life and their body is changing according to the environment’s heat. However, the fact is that almost 1.62 Fahrenheit of temperature has been increased since the century and most of the heat has taken in the 35 years.

Ocean AcidificationOcean Acidification

It is been seen that around 30% of the ease has been encountered in the oceans. The reason for that is stated that humans are using more and more industrial equipment. The Aftermath of which more carbon dioxide is emitted in the atmosphere and hence absorbed by the oceans and results in ocean acidification.

Glacial RetreatGlacial retreat

The glaciers around the world are disappearing at a very high pace. Some of the glaciers such as The alps, Himalayas, Alaska, and Africa. They will be gone before one will start to take a step against the rapidly changing climate

Decreased Snow CoverDecreased Snow Cover

According to Nasa, the satellite coverage depicts that the snow cover over the Northern hemisphere is disappearing continuously. Additionally, it is been said that most of it has happened in the past 5 years only.

Causes of Climate ChangeCauses of climate change

On Earth, human activities are changing the natural greenhouse. Over the last century, the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil has increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). This happens because the coal or oil burning process combines carbon with oxygen in the air to make CO2. To a lesser extent, the clearing of land for agriculture, industry, and other human activities has increased concentrations of greenhouse gases.

The consequences of changing the natural atmospheric greenhouse are difficult to predict, but certain effects seem likely:

    • On average, Earth will become warmer. Some regions may welcome warmer temperatures, but others may not.
    • Warmer conditions will probably lead to more evaporation and precipitation overall, but individual regions will vary, some becoming wetter and other dryers.
    • A stronger greenhouse effect will warm the oceans and partially melt glaciers and other ice, increasing sea level. Ocean water also will expand if it warms, contributing further to sea-level rise.
    • Meanwhile, some crops and other plants may respond favorably to increased atmospheric CO2, growing more vigorously and using water more efficiently. At the same time, higher temperatures and shifting climate patterns may change the areas where crops grow best and affect the makeup of natural plant communities.

The Effects of climate changeEffects of climate change

Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes more than 1,300 scientists from the United States and other countries, forecasts a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century.

According to the IPCC, the extent of climate change effects on individual regions will vary over time and with the ability of different societal and environmental systems to mitigate or adapt to change.

The IPCC predicts that increases in global mean temperature of less than 1.8 to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit (1 to 3 degrees Celsius) above 1990 levels will produce beneficial impacts in some regions and harmful ones in others. Net annual costs will increase over time as global temperatures increase.
